 | Welcome to the Deming Elks Lodge! |
Message from the Exalted Ruler
First, I would like to express my sorrow to Sue and Ollie Cooper on the death of Sue’s mom, Laura Burton. She passed away on the 25th. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
We hosted the DD Clinic on January 23rd at the New Lodge. I would like to thank Harriet Kirich PER for the delicious barbecue ham sandwiches, and morning donuts, which were enjoyed by all.
February is an important month for the Lodge. This is the month we ask our members to step forward and take on leadership positions. Nomination of Officers is at the first meeting, PER night, on February 4th. The annual election is at the second meeting on February 18th. If you are interested in a chair, please let an officer or PER know.
There will be a third meeting this month. Two candidates cannot make Thursday meetings, and so we have scheduled a special meeting for initiation only on February 20th at 6 pm at the New Lodge. All members are invited. No other business will be discussed.
Our Club Manager, Phyllis Wheeler, has put together a couple of events this month.
On February 7th, come to the Lodge to watch the Super Bowl. We will open as usual at 1 pm, and remain open until after the game. Roger Bladow will bring in his big screen TV, and the Lodge will have finger foods and snacks.
On February 14th, we will have a special Valentines Dinner and Dance. Enjoy spaghetti, salad and garlic bread for $6. Serving from 5-7 pm. I will supply the music, and Dave Johnson will be the DJ. Dance to all kinds of music. This is the first time in a while that we have had music as opposed to karaoke. If successful, we will look at scheduling more dances.
Phyllis also has a special concoction in the way of the February Drink Special, the Woo Woo. I have sampled this drink, and I think you will like it. Ask for the Woo Woo during February. You won’t be sorry.
Phyllis also wants to continue the potluck dinners. More on this next month.
If you would like to put on a meal, just let us know. You can choose the menu, and profits can go to your favorite Elks charity. See Marleen Kent or any officer for information and to schedule your meal.
Volunteers are the way our Lodge keeps running smoothly, from bartenders to those who put on meals to our committee chairmen. We probably don’t say it enough, but we truly do thank you.
Until next time, remember, Elks Care, Elks Share.
Yours in Elkdom,
Mike Hedrick ER
